DELE EXAMS IN SANTANDER

Santander offers you the opportunity to pass your DELE exams. There are two examinations centres in the city. So a good option is following a preparation course and then try the DELE. In the UIMP they have the May, August and November exams and  the CANTABRIA UNIVERSITY  examines too.

Some schools like UNILANG IDIOMAS organize courses to prepare these exams and they even enroll you.

ACCOMMODATION: THE BEST OPTIONS IN SANTANDER

Santander is a very tourist city and it has a wide offer of different types of accommodation. Here we offer just a selection.

It´s in the city centre. A classical hotel with charm. Medium prices

It´s in the city centre  but it´s a nice hotel with a good quality for the price. Quite economical for a hotel.

A beautiful building with a new hostel. It´s in the centre and very enonomical youth hostel.

This camping is a bit far away form the city centre. In the summer the bus 15 stops next to. A beautiful and quiet enviromment.

A good offer and just in front of the beaches. Different types of apartments.

Anyway, we strongly recommend  you to choose a host family so as to improve your Spanish. This is always the best option and you will practise a lot and enjoy the Spanish way of life. Unilang idiomas offers you selected host families with single or double rooms and full board or half board.

TOURIST OFFICES IN SANTANDER

Once you have arrived you should visit the tourist offices. There are two and in the summer there will be more. The city main tourist office is opened in the Pereda Gardens (JARDINES DE PEREDA) just in the centre. They will be give you a city plan and information about the city, also they can give you brochures about the cultural and entertainment activities.

There is another tourist office opened in the old Este Market ( MERCADO DEL ESTE). This is the Cantabria tourist office so they have information about all the Cantabria region, that´s good for planing your trips outside the city. Also there they have information about other Spanish cities, just in case you need a plan.

If you need practical information for your trips outside Santander, a good idea is to visit the bus station or the train station just in front ( there are two train station one long distances and another short). There you will get timetables for the buses and trains inside and outside Cantabria. Their web page is a mess so better go there.

MUSEUMS AND EXHIBITIONS IN SANTANDER

Santander has also a small Museums offer. Unfortunatelly  the new BOTIN ART CENTRE  created by RENZO PIANO is still underconstruction, it will open in 2014. But if it´s a rainy day you can visit the following museums and exhibitions, please check the timetable.

The museum has been opened again in July 2013. The place is the basement of the Este Market in the centre of Santander, this is only temporary because a new building near is going to be the future museum. Here you can enjoy some masterpices and their quality is extraordinary. It´s highly recommended. It´s open from Wednesday to Sunday.

Close to Los Peligros beach you can visit this small museum. It´s well located and some of the information is quiet interesting. Also you can practise your Spanish. Be careful: Mondays closed.

That´s an art museum in the centre ( 6 Rubio Street). There aren´t masterpieces but it is interesting. You can find a Goya´s painting and some Blanchard´s paintings too. You will learn a lot about the painters of landscapes. Sometimes they have expositions.

Just next to the Museo de Bellas Artes there are the Menendez Pelayo´s Library and house. You can visit both, it´s specially nice the wooden library, but be careful with the time tables.Menendez Pelayo was a very important Spanish writer of the 19th century and he was born in Santander.

A bit far away from the city centre there is the most important light house in Santander. The views are fantastic and inside there is a nice collection of objects related with the light houses and the sea. You can take a walk from the last Sardinero beach or take the bus. The best option is the number 15 from the Stations to the faro but only in the summers. The other options (number 1 or2) leave you a medium walk distance form the Faro.

Just in the parking of the Alfonso XIII square you can visit the oldwharves. The exhibition is quite interactive and interesting but you need to go first to the tourist office in the Pereda garden so as to close an appointment to visit it

This is not a museum but in this exhibition centre you will find quiet interesting art exhibitions and they are changing often. So you will need to visit the web page of the Botín Foundation and look for EXHIBITIONS/ CONFERENCES. The center is just behind the Banco de Santander building in the Paseo de Pereda Avenue (3 Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola Str.).

This beautiful small building is just in the middle of the port. Next to the boats that take you throught the bay. If you pass and it is open, you can go inside becuse it has free exhibitions all the year yound.

ENTERTAINMENT IN SANTANDER: FESTIVALS, CONCERT HALLS, THEATRE, CINEMAS..

In Santander we can offer different options and here you can enjoy them specially during the summer. If you are coming here please check the programs of these places maybe you can find a good surprise and you can by tickets for a concert, a film, a play...
Just in the middle of the city, maybe you like or maybe not this huge building, but all the year it offers an interesting program, so it´s worth to read it and even go there. On line you can read the new program.

UIMP offers a complete program with university courses in the summer but also it organizes a lot of cultural activities during the summer. That´s a complete offer that you can read in their web site inside ACTIVIDADES CULTURALES. Some of them are even free but you need to check the city place where they take place because it changes and some they are outside Santander.

In Tantín Str. near the city center there is the Old Caja Cantabria hall where concerts and plays take place. The program is all the year round and you can check it so as to see if there is something interesting. Caja de Cantabria has his main place here in the Tantin Str. but it has other places inside and outside Santander.

You should visit their web page in Spanish and English so as to know the exhibitions and concerts that there will be in the city. It has two buildings in the city centre, just behind the Banco de Santander building in Paseso de Pereda Avenue. The one in Pedrueca str. has a concert hall.

In the 6 Bonifaz Str. there is an old cinema that now has been transformed into a cinema for old films lovers. If you are not sure that your Spanish level is good enought don´t worry. Here the films are in their language and with Spanish subtitles. It´s the Palacio de Festivales de Santander web page but it´s in a different building.

Near Esperanza church and market there is a small cinema ( 4 Cisneros str.) where you can enjoy good films and not very commercial. You can check their program in their web page.

Another old cinema in the city centre, just in front of the town hall, is open. Here you can find new films but they aren´t the last ones. The price is also cheaper. All types of films, you can review the last success.

A bit far away from the city centre you can find the new films in a modern comercial centre ( even in 3D). In their web page you need to choose SANTANDER in the ZONA options so as to see the program. You need to take the 12 city bus in front ot the town hall or the 19 next to the bus station ( ask for the CORTE  INGLÉS so as to know where to stop)
